What is HRA?

The Human Resource Association of Central Missouri (HRA) is an organization for human resource professionals and is affiliated with the national Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Mission

HRA's mission is to enhance high standards of performance and professionalism among its membership.

Structure

HRA is governed by an executive committee whose duties are outlined in the constitution and by-laws. The officers are elected by the membership each year. In addition to the executive committee, several standing and special committees operate to meet immediate and long-range needs of the chapter.

Membership

Membership in the organization is open to professionals engaged in human resource administration in business, government, or the academic community. As outlined in the by-laws, a Professional Member must possess at least 3 years of professional experience in Human Resources and perform such duties as compensation, benefits, health, labor relations, employment, safety, training and development, or personnel research. Association Membership is available to persons outside the forgoing categories who perform at least 50% of their job duties in one of the above listed HR functions. Student membership is available to persons enrolled in a four-year program or graduate level Human Resources related degree program. Affiliate membership is available to persons who provide unique expertise, credentials, and experiences that are beneficial to human resources professionals.

Meetings

Meetings are held monthly. Networking time provides an opportunity for members to exchange ideas and is followed by a guest speaker and meal.

Professional Development

In the interest of serving its broad-based membership, HRA addresses topics which are of interest to the human resource generalist as well as the specialist. HRA sponsors or co-sponsors workshops and seminars to provide its members with educational opportunities in the field of human resource management. These professional development activities are designed to address timely issues facing HR professionals. Individuals may share their knowledge and experience with others through study groups as well.

Networking

HRA monthly meetings and special events provide an opportunity for you to meet with your professional peers and form an extensive network of human resource professionals.

Legislative Updates

HRA provides its members with up-to-date information and analysis of local, state and federal legislation and government activities affecting business and human resource management.

Web Site

Each member will have access to a secure area of the HRA Web site which contains a directory of members to facilitate networking, our Bylaws, our monthly newsletter to keep you informed about upcoming meetings, events, conferences, committee reports, important events and services on the state and national level, membership information and other news; a listing of committees and officers, a feature to sign up for a committee; the ability to e-mail members and groups; the ability to participate in and view the results of surveys; links to other valuable web sites; and a job posting feature.

Noteworthy Speakers

HRA provides programming which focuses on topics of importance to its membership, presented by experts in the field. Whenever possible, speakers of regional or national recognition are engaged.

Professional Recognition

HRA provides members with resources to prepare them for the PHR and SPHR certification examinations, which can lead to professional growth and career advancement. HRA also provides resources for certified members to meet the recertification requirements.

National Affiliation

HRA is an affiliate chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the national human resource organization. Therefore, HRA has access to resources and support from the national association, as well as opportunities for participation and recognition on the national level.
